Damien suffers from severe manic psychosis, and his only emotional anchor is his black cat Lily. After his condition stabilises, he moves to an upscale neighbourhood with Lily, hoping for a fresh start. But his neighbours, Marcus and Elena, torment him at every turn: Elena sets her dog on the cat, Marcus forces Damien to apologise to the dog. For Lily’s sake, Damien suppresses his rage again and again, only to face escalating humiliations—dragged into a party, forced to kneel, doused with alcohol, and trampled in public. He keeps telling himself, ‘For Lily, I must stay normal’, but their cruelty escalates, and the cat becomes the last line between his endurance and his breakdown.
